Wedding Rings

Often commissions come from individuals working in the design industry. The process of receiving a design brief is all too familiar for these clients, so when the roles are reversed, the experience can be challenging.

For a couple skilled at visualising their ideas through drawings, the challenge for me (who never visualises things) was to communicate 'the personality' of the piece without resorting to my bad sketches. The intention was to produce a wedding and engagement ring that had neither top nor bottom, but worked in the round. There should be some interlocking element to the two rings that was otherwise completely different but complimentary - a feminine/masculine paradigm.

After seeing the completed work the clients felt the combination of forms and materials in the rings had an architectural quality that related to the aesthetic shared in their own design practice.
